Riding into Chi-town from the south...

If you try, you can hear the metallic clank of the train's bell. It rings to a rhythm as the mighthy diesel engines and cars slowly approach the station. Veer to the right and you will find yourself at the commuter station underneath downtown's beautiful Grant Park. Veer to the left and you will find yourself at the historic downtown Union Station.

On the right is Soldier Field, home of the 9 and 4 Bears. The gigantic white edifice straight ahead is the Aon Centre. It used to be the Amoco Buiding, and before that, well, I forget what they called it. It is the 14th tallest building in the world.

From the street level the mightly city looks so majestic. However, below street level is where you find the train tracks, garbage scows, sewer tunnels etc. In the wee hours, when the downtown is deserted, you can find dozens of homeless, digging through the trash, sleeping in the parks, packs of coyotes and thousands of rats. Of course you will never find that on a post card.
