Feliz Navidad

A Brief Observation

I received this email the other day...

Subject: Thoughts
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat or Republican or
Independent.
From a California school teacher - - -"As you listen to the news about the student- protests over illegal immigration, there are some things
That you should be aware of: I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socio-economic and income levels.
Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools. One hundred percent of the students in this school and other Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll -- but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The School also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America. (OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK)
I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students, here in the country less then 3 months, who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas", whores, and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.
Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?
To my liberal friends: I hope you're really proud of how our congress has helped to sell-out this country with this pro-illegal policy.
To my bleeding-heart liberal friends who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs. Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases etc., etc, etc.
For me, I'll pay more for tomatoes. We need to wake up. The guest worker program will be a disaster because we won't have the guts to enforce it. Does anyone in their right mind really think they will voluntarily leave and return?
There are many hardworking Hispanic/American citizens that contribute to our country and many that I consider my true friends. We should encourage and accept those Hispanics who have done it the right and legal way. It does, however, have everything to do with culture: A third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about "politically correct" that we don't have the will to do anything about it. If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know.

They were right. It did make me think...

A Brief Observation

Next to California, Chicago has the largest Mexican population in the United States. I live in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago. It is the largest Mexican neighborhood in Chicago. Currently the neighborhood is undergoing gentrification. I have found that many of the issues mentioned above are true in the Pilsen neighborhood.
I was surprised by the great breakfasts that are provided for the students at the neighborhood schools and shocked by the amount of uneaten food that is tossed in the dumpsters. The Chicago Public School employees have to make sure they cook enough food for the students. Unfortunately, it is not safe or legal to save the leftovers for the next day’s breakfast.
As in California, there are numerous pregnant teenage girls at the local high school. A 19-year-old girl lives in the building next door to me. Her mother was an illegal alien, but she was born in the U.S. She became a citizen at 18. At 19 she has already had TWO "ninos". She doesn't know who the fathers are and doesn't really care. She works part time, cash under the table, and collects public assistance. She never intended to finish school. She probably isn't smart enough to get her diploma. The local culture is one that teaches females they don't have to go to school or work. They can receive assistance with their rent, utilities, food stamps etc. Of course, the more children they have the more assistance they receive. Illegal aliens are eligible for Most of the assistance programs. The State of Illinois and the City of Chicago are not interested whether you are a citizen or legal or illegal alien when they offer assistance.
I am amazed at the number of illegal aliens stepping off the express busses from Texas, Arizona and New Mexico, several times daily. It is obvious many of them are coming straight from Mexico. Often they are dressed for hot arid weather. Why would you come to Chicago in November or December in cowboy hats, jeans and shirtsleeves or even shorts and a T-shirt, unless you were completely clueless as to Chicago's weather? Many of the people stepping off the busses are sick and haven't taken a bath in days. There are several slumlords in the neighborhood. They rent apartments where 10 or 15 illegal aliens tenants "live" per apartment. Basically they sleep on the floor and subsist on beer and tortillas. Eventually they find a steady job and move into a small studio or one bedroom apartment for a couple hundred dollars a month. If they are lucky, they find a girlfriend with a couple ninos, who collects public assistance and then they pool their resources. While middle class Americans would consider their living conditions intolerable, I am often told they are living like kings compared to conditions in Mexico.
You would likely be surprised at the huge underground economy in Mexican neighborhoods in the U.S. In this neighborhood there are countless stores, kiosks and bodegas that have no licenses or permits. Everything is cash under the table. In 1990, Chicago had more than 4000 neighborhood taverns. I recently saw a figure that in the year 2000, there were fewer than 1,200 Chicago taverns. When drinking became politically incorrect, the city council decided that there were too many bars and drunks, so they cut back on granting new liquor licenses. In this neighborhood many of those storefronts are now second hand stores and Mexican restaurants. Many vendors rent the stores, set up shop and do business until the city shuts them down. Then they move down the street and set up shop again. There are bodegas on every corner. If someone asks for papers, they just move to the next corner. Of course, if you pay off the cops or the right city employee, you don't need any licenses of permits. Of course the local authorities would rather see them doing business without a license than breaking and entering, dealing drugs or worse yet, supporting them in the already overcrowded Cook County Jail.
When I moved here, the number of luxury automobiles, SUV's and Pick-up trucks parked on Pilsen's streets surprised me. They are not owned by middle class workers from the neighborhood, they park in their garages in the alleys. Do the owners spend most of their income on transportation and live in a tenement? Or are they involved in some sort of illicit occupation? If so, why doesn't the Chicago Police Department stake out the suspect automobiles that logically do not belong in this neighborhood, and arrest the owners as they deal drugs to the neighborhood kids? This is not rocket science.
Every night I watch cars pull up outside the ungentrifyed building two doors down. A gang banger from the La Raza Street Gang, one of the many unchecked Mexican gangs in Chicago, run out to the cars. The persons driving the cars hand them cash and the gangbangers hand them an envelope. I’ve called the cops. The cops show up later, frisk the gang bangers, take whatever is in their pockets and leave. The La Raza continue to do business.
December 5th, it was on the news that the DEA arrested 29 members of the Chicago "Latin Kings", a Mexican competitor of "La Raza". They confiscated 15 kilos of Cocaine and 90 AK47s!
I often wonder why the proper Federal agencies don't just put up a roadblock in this neighborhood and begin checking papers and drivers licenses. I believe they would find 70 percent of the residents in the neighborhood are illegal aliens and that half the people on the road do not have driver's licenses or insurance. (I am not kidding) I suspect the government doesn't put up roadblocks because Chicago would lose many of its custodians, maids, dishwashers, busboys and lawn-care workers.
Keep in mind, most of the police, city and state workers in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago are Hispanic and from the neighborhood or a similar one. Many of the workers are the sons, daughters or relatives of illegal aliens. They are not likely to arrest or deport any Hispanic illegal aliens. If they did, you would not believe the shit storm they would have to endure from their families, friends and neighbors.
The situation is unlikely to reverse. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the Hispanic population increased by more than 6 million between April 2000 and July 2004 or by 1.6 percent. At that rate the Hispanic population will be the majority in the U.S. in less than 40 years. Of course, the calculations do not include the thousands of illegal aliens crossing the U.S. Mexican border daily. The majority of Hispanics in this neighborhood and neighborhoods like it are Catholic. They do not believe in using birth control. Consequently, the Hispanic population is increasing exponentially and at a much faster rate than the U.S. Census Bureau predicts. It appears to me that the Hispanic population will likely be the majority in the U.S. in two, possibly one, generation.
If many of our unemployed welfare recipients were sneaking over the border to collect welfare try to find work in Canada, would we do anything to stop them? I do not understand why Latinos are demonstrating for "rights". In a generation they will just be able to legislate whatever they want.
