Sorry, I've been sick

As the Barometer rises, so does the pressure

The inbox overflows while many things remain undone

Nevertheless the sun shines and the summer calls

The city waits no more as you stall

Time to tour your imagination

Cabrini Green

A warm beautiful day spent cycling around the city.

Along a lake, along a river to where a mightly ghetto once stood.

The energy used to pedal, to drive on, has left us parched and gritty.

We stop, we rejuvenate.

Where you would once fear the crack of a pistol, Now stands a luxurious neighborhood and the smile of a young boy.

The Big Box

Welcome to Gold Coast on Chicago's near north side. This is the country's richest neighborhood. Any day you take a stroll through the perfectly manucured sidewalks, ivy covered walls, you will see an odd assortment of tourists, on their way to the Worlds highest open air observatory or Chicago's watertower. On the other hand you might run into an assortment of older rich women on their way to the day spa, the salon or to blow a few thousand at Saks.

You will not find a Walmart in this city. You will not find a Taget her, oh no! The city coucil just ran them out of town. Of course they can't outlaw discount stores, but they can pass what they call the "Big Box" law, requiring all discount stores to pay a living wage of $10.00 an hour plus $3.00 an hour in benefits. Of course it sounds great. Unfortunately for Chicago's idiotic aldermen, it never occured to them that wages of $13.00 an hour would make the stores economically unviable. Walmart immediately decided not to open a store here. Target immediately annouced they were closing their stores. Chicago lost thousands of jobs so that local politicians could look good. Nevertheless, you can still get a thousand dollar bikini wax and hair style....
