I'm Tagged, I swiped this from Cynnie....

I'm Tagged..
By Julie ..Check her out!Movie Meme!

1. The last movie you saw in a theatre, and current-release movie you still want to see.a "Walk The Line". b. Current release movie I still want to see:I'm not impressed with anything out there..maybe the "Black Dahlia" !

2. The last movie you rented/purchased for home viewing.I bought a bunch at once at the Blockbuster: "Munich", "Syrianna", "Good Night and Good Luck", "Capote" and "Serenity".

3. A movie that made you laugh out loud."There is Something About Mary", that is the last movie that made me laugh so hard my stomach ached..

4. A movie that made you cry. There are a lot of movies that get me choked up. "Saving Private Ryan" always puts a lump in my throat. "Ghost" does that. Recently, "North Country" got me choked up.

5. A movie that was a darling of the critics, but you didn't think lived up to the hype.ermm...most of them ? I hated "Brokeback Mountain". And it had nothing to do with the gay theme. I just thought it sucked.

6. A movie that you thought was better than the critics.I liked "Syriana".

7. Favorite animated movie."An American in Paris". I enjoy watching Gene Kelly dance with Tom of "Tom and Jerry". Does that count? How about the end of "2001, A Space Odyssey".

8. Favorite Disney Villain. Its not a person , but people..the hunters in Bambi..Bambi is a boring movie ..but I like how they accidently (I suppose) made people out to be bastards.

9. Favorite movie musical"An American In Paris" or "West Side Story" it’s a tie.

10. Favorite movies of all-time (up to 5).I'm gonna list a bunch here in no particular order.

"2001, A Space Odyssey" I could watch the space docking set to Strauss’s "Blue Danube" again and again.

"Rear Window". Jimmy Stewart and Raymond Burr prove they are awesome actors. Jimmy Stewart never leaves his bed except to fall out the window. Raymond Bur has to develop his character from across the back yard.

"The Outlaw Josie Wales" is probably Clint Eastwood’s best western. The man without a name gets a name and gets to ad a little humor.

"Braveheart" Need I say more.

"Chinatown" Every time I see Jack Nicholson gets his nose cut or kiss Faye Dunaway, I get shivers up my spine.

"To Kill A Mockingbird" The soundtrack to that movie is one of the best ever written.

"Night of the Hunter"… "CHILDREN!…………..CHILDREN!" Love Shelly Winters underwater!

"American In Paris" or "West Side Story" Some of the best music and dancing ever wrriten.

"Total Recall" Love Arnold on Mars,

"Blade Runner" Love watching Daryl Hannah do cartwheels.

"The Magnificent Seven" is the ultimate western.

"The Exorcist" sends shivers up my spine! There are sooo many I adore.

The Monadnock Building

The Monadnock Building

This building was finished in 1889. It is one of the first "skyscrapers" ever built. It is constructed from load bearing masonry. I believe the walls are 13' thick at the ground level. It was the tallest building in the world for brief time, a whopping 16 stories. If it was for architecture junkies having it declared a landmark, it would have faded into oblivion like so many other architectural treasures in downtown Chicago.

The Skyline

I took this picture last month from the Shedd Aquarium. I was able to squeeze most of Chicago's skyline into the picture. I know it is redundant but it was such a great picture I had to post it.

Five years later...

Al Qaeda targeted the World Trade Center in part because it was the home of the New York Mercantile Exchange. That is where crude oil futures are traded and the price of crude oil and it's products are set in a free market.

I have read and seen on television that if the same attack were carried out on the Sears Tower, that due to it's design, it would not have collapsed. It is designed and constructed as if it is nine separate buildings banded together.

On September 11th, 2001, I was working across the street from Sears Tower. As my colleages and I, along with the rest of the world, watched the World Trade Center burn and later collapse, I noticed that everytime there was a loud noise, many heads would jerk to look out the window at the Sears Tower across the street. Since that day, whenever there is a loud noise, I notice heads turn around to make sure the Sears Tower is still intact.

It is five years later. I am employed by a different company a couple blocks away from my previous firm. However, September 11th, 2006, there is a thunderstorm outside. Everytime I hear the clap of thunder, I see numerous heads turn around and look out the window at the Sears Tower. I'm not sure what they are thinking, but I assume they are checking to make sure it is intact...

U.S. Post Office

This is the central branch of the United States Post Office. When it was constructed it was the largest building in the world, that is until the Merchandise Mart was erected. It takes up more than two entire city blocks. As the central hub for the U.S. Post Office, more mail moved through that building than any other facilityin the nation. It now sits deserted. The Post Office moved across the street to a new and improved facility.

How would you go about demolishing soething like that? Or would you turn it into luxury condos?
